“Social media is so stupid.”
“Twitter schmitter. Who wants to hear about what you had for lunch? Blogging? Your diary doesn’t interest me. And Facebook? I tried posting my products to Facebook. It was like spitting in the wind.”
Yes, social media is stupid if you don’t know how to use it. It’s not effective and even worse, it’s a waste of time.
But it doesn’t have to be such a foreign and mysterious way of marketing. It’s just a new set of tools to do what successful marketers have been doing for centuries: creating relationships with people and establishing the trust necessary for them to feel comfortable spending their money with you.
People who dismiss the use of social media for business out of hand remind me of people who trash movies they haven’t seen with statements like “who wants to see a movie about the Titanic?”
If you know how to use Twitter you can generate significant revenue or connect with people who can transform your business. If you know use Facebook or a blog for business you can get qualified leads without advertising, meet people, develop your ideas, increase trust, and that’s just the beginning of what social media could can do.
Social media can be a waste of time but really, that’s up to you, isn’t it?
